Biological Collections at Timken Science Library

The Timken Science Library is proud to present bugs! In Fall semester of 2023, student research assistants in the Environmental Sciences department collected and preserved insect and arachnid specimens from around campus and other sites in Wayne County. In addition to learning about entomological classification through taxonomy they also created the beautiful, pinned collections on display at Timken.

According to their advisor Carlo Moreno, 鈥淏iological collections not only serve as a repository of biodiversity, they also help us monitor environmental change. By documenting the rate at which preserved species appear (or disappear) in collections over time, we get a better sense of how ecological changes have impacted our natural world.鈥

Please stop by the Timken Science Library to see the remarkable preservation work of Amanda Flory, Sam Foye, Michelina Guerra, and Zo毛 Jurkowski.
