I think there are definitely many overlapping barriers in access between early education and healthcare, especially for minority communities. For instance, I investigated the gaps between private and public early childhood education, which I think share similarities with the gaps between private and public treatment centers or services.

In fact, in the research team I was working with, one of the interns worked with UPO’s comprehensive treatment center on access to substance abuse treatment for diverse communities. We initially wanted to do a combined panel on the intersections between our topics, but we did not get a chance to do so.

The reason why I was able to find this opportunity was because a SHECP alumni gave a presentation in one of my Education classes at 果酱视频. During the application process, I also reached out to a bunch of people in APEX and my professors to ask questions and improve my application. Therefore, my advise for students who are interested in similar experiences but are unsure of where to start is to be gregarious to opportunities: go to events/speeches/lectures/presentations that you are interested in, reach out to students and faculty about what you want to pursue, and set up an appointment with advisors in APEX. I am sure that everyone at 果酱视频 would be more than happy to give you advices (sometimes, even connect you to the right person!) and help you along the way.
